Class Spinner: Random Student Picker

Paste your class list, spin, and call on a random student. Fair for everyone and quick to set up.

A spinner for calling on students

Calling on the same hands again and again is easy to do without noticing. A class spinner removes the bias. Type or paste your students, one per line, then spin. The wheel picks at random, so every student has an equal chance every time.

Switch on Remove the winner after each spin so everyone gets a turn before names repeat. Once the wheel is empty, paste the list in again for the next round. Your class list stays in your browser, so students' names are never uploaded.

Ways to use it in lessons

Use it for answering questions, picking presenters, choosing group leaders or deciding who gets a classroom job. You can also put topics, vocabulary words or maths facts on the wheel instead of names.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste your class list, one name per line.
  2. Tick Remove the winner after each spin.
  3. Press Spin and ask the question to the chosen student.
  4. Paste the list again to start a new round.

Ways to use it

  • Cold-calling in a fair way.
  • Choosing presenters and group leaders.
  • Picking vocabulary, spelling or maths prompts.
  • Assigning classroom jobs for the week.

Is it fair and private?

Every result on SpinPicker is picked at random by your own browser, and every number or entry has exactly the same chance. Nothing is sent to a server, so nobody else can see or change your result.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to use real student names?

Names stay in your browser and are not sent to us. You can also use initials or numbers.

Can I save my class list?

Your list is kept in your browser on the same device, so it is there next time.

Can I skip a student who is absent?

Yes. Start the line with a tilde, like ~Alex, and that name leaves the wheel.

Can I use numbers instead of names?

Yes. See the number randomizer for class lists from 1 to 30.
